Hijacked Hormones

Pull up a chair…

Here’s the challenge…I truly don’t think we were ever meant to carry the weight of it all. Many of us have a family, career, volunteering, hobbies, and then we remember that somewhere in the midst of the chaos- we were supposed to be caring for ourselves too. You have to have YOU on your list of things to care for (don’t worry, I’m preaching to the choir..I’m talking to myself here too!). Hijacked hormones can happen at any age and any stage. It’s a dance of balanced nutrition, sleep, stress/inflammation management, movement, and mood support…not all that tough- right?! I haven’t fully cracked the code as I’m still navigating my own journey but I’m going to share my current non-negotiables below!

#1. Herbal Tincture: Earthley’s Lunamore has been a great addition for hormone support. I have always dosed 5 drops under the tongue before bed, unless it’s shark week (that’s what we call it in our house, don’t judge!)- then I use 10 drops under the tongue before bed. My daughter has also found it to be beneficial! I knew that I was doing something right as a mom when she gave me a high five and said “Mom, this stuff really helps- thank you!”

#2. Magnesium for sleep: Let’s repeat it together…”we need quality sleep to thrive”…I aim for 7+hours a night and have found great benefit with magnesium for sleep quality, gut health, and muscle health! LiveGood has been our “go-to” company for years because their prices and quality are so good!

#3. Creatine for Muscle/Brain Fog: Wait, what was I going to say? Kidding! But for real- who knew that finding the word that was just in our brain would be so challenging! Creatine was on the naughty list for a long time. I know that I pictured body builders scooping their powdery goodness out of the tub above their fridge for years- ha! Recent studies show great benefits from creatine use- up to 10grams/day. I must admit that my hydration game was increased when I introduced creatine- but I’m never going back!

#4. Grounding Sheets: Nope- you didn’t read that wrong. These sheets have drastically reduced my inflammation and fatigue levels! I have friends who no longer travel without bringing their grounding sheets along for the ride. Now, if you’ve cracked the code and are able to get your bare feet in the dirt for several hours a day to reap the benefits of “grounding”- then invite me into your world, sis! But if you’re like me and are going 110mph for days, then grab a set of grounding sheets, plug them into your grounding port in your outlet and report back. Don’t knock it, til ya try it!

#5. Lymphatic Support: Feeling puffy and seeing the outline of your rings and socks aren’t normal. We have to encourage our lymphatic system to drain. My favorite way to support my lymphatic system is through Dry Brushing and Rebounding! Vibration plates are becoming more popular but if I purchase another gadget, my husband might purchase another instrument (love you, babe!). We can overwhelm our lymphatic system if we jump in (pun intended) too quickly! I started by dry brushing (gently brush your skin with a dry brush towards the arm pits/neck/groin region where the lymph nodes are clustered) my upper body only for two weeks (I do it right before I jump into a hot shower) and then introduced the lower body after the initial few weeks of the upper body alone. Rowe Casa Organics has a great lymphatic cream but starting with dry brushing is a great place to consider.

#6. Emotional Support: Hijacked hormones can often feel like a chaos storm of emotions: frustration, anger, sadness, worry, and often feeling alone in a room full of people. When we feel out of control, our stress hormone can sky-rocket. Being intentional to support my emotional health has been more important in the past year than ever before (hello 2025- I see you!). I’ve tried many supplements for mood and I keep coming back to “Restored”…it’s what finally helped me hop off the “fight or flight” train and I am so grateful. Routine counseling has been my “cherry on top” over the past several months. I’ve found that getting out of my head and working through healthy boundaries has been truly life-changing. I am in “fix-it” mode all day, every day- and it’s truly a gift to have someone sit and help me place all of my scattered thoughts into appropriate places. I’m going to link my favorite supplement, a local recommendation for a counselor (virtual in NC or in-person), and a fantastic book about Boundaries (honestly the entire series is so good!).
